“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
Edgar Degas
There is a story behind the picture you see. The original was taken during the teachers' strike last year here. When I first saw it, I cried because that lady stands for what we believe. She alone faced the police, shouting:"I teach your children!". And yes, we were treated like criminals. I understand they were doing what was demanded. I can forgive them but I can't forgive the system. That photo is art in my opinion. It represents bravery, beauty, strength, ideals, feelings we carry in our hearts and make us get out of our beds and hope for better days. Yes, we lost the battle but not the war... yet.

ResponderExcluirThis is absolutely INCREDIBLE, Karla. I feel so sorry for that poor teacher. I feel for all teachers. They are underpaid and under appreciated. I'm glad you brought this to my attention, because I had NO idea about this horrible travesty that happened in your country.

Love your photo and interpretation as well!
ResponderExcluirIncredible. Truly incredible. The story is amazing, and one which I hear more and more of - the militarization of police and the criminalization of protest. I particular love in your image how the message goes both ways: what do I see in you, what do you see in me, and how can we move beyond the confines of the barriers we set between us?
